Cougars 9,
Panthers 7
MojoLand.net April 19, 2008
3:12 pm
Abilene Cooper's
batting coach evidently utilized the past
three days teeing off on 'the Heater' as a
first pitch. Permian watched the Cougars
tack five runs up in the first inning. Andrew
Bell added a run for PHS in the bottom of the
first. Cooper scored another run in the second
and three more runners crossed the plate in
the fourth inning to take a 9-1 lead. Josh
Ward led off the sixth with a walk, followed
by singles from Ryne Rice and Taylor Beall.
Ward scored to cut into the Cougar 9-2 lead as
the battle entered the seventh inning.
Permian put their best effort of the afternoon
into play. Fabian Rivera started it off with a
single and Ryan Rumbaugh followed with a
double, which scored Rivera. The next two
batters made contact on the ball, flying out
to right field and center field. With two
outs, Trevor Adams stepped into the batter's
box and was hit by a pitch to advance to first
base. Grayson Brookshire singled to right
field, moving Adams over and scoring Rumbaugh.
Rice hit his second single and Adams made it
home to pull the Panthers within four runs.
Beall belted a shot to the outfield warning
track, which was mishandled by the right
fielder. The error cost Cooper two more runs
as Brookshire and Rice crossed the plate. Bell
grounded out to the second baseman to end the
game with Beall heading to third.
