ODESSA — In the 2016 District 2-6A finale, Permian jumped out to a 21-0 lead before Midland Lee answered with 13 points late in the second quarter to make it a 21-13 halftime score favoring the Panthers.  Mojo dominated the second half to claim a 55-28 victory over the Rebels on Seniors Night at Ratliff Stadium.

Steve SteenIt took all of 18 seconds for Permian to draw first blood.  On the first play from scrimmage, junior quarterback Steve Steen found sophomore receiver Toddrick Robinson over the middle on a 71-yard catch-and-run to take a quick 7-0 lead.  The offensive production went silent for both teams the remainder of the opening quarter.  The Mojo defense forced the Rebels to go three-and-out on all three possessions in the quarter.
Permian took over at its own 31 and ran two plays to end the first quarter, and then utilized four more plays to begin the second frame to extend the lead to 14-0.  Justin Hammond capped off the 69-yard drive with a 13 yard gallop to paydirt.  The Panthers used four plays on the next set of downs before Robinson once again found the endzone, this time on a 42-yard TD run.  Lee managed to answer late in the half on a 17-play drive to cut the margin back to 14 points.  A mishandled kickoff by the Panthers gave the Rebels the ball at the Mojo 26.  Four plays later, Lee scored to only trail 21-13 at the intermission.
The Rebels were able knot the game at 21-21 after taking the opening drive of the second half 67 yards in seven plays.  Robinson pulled the momentum back to the home side of the field when he busted loose on a 72-yard touchdown run on the second play of the Permian drive.  It was his third time to cross the goal line during the game.  From there, the Panthers refused to allow the Rebels to get any closer.  The Mojo defense forced Lee into another series of three plays and a punt.  Taking over at their own 39, the Panthers traveled 61 yards in three plays and Steen capped off the scoring drive with a 5-yard TD run.  The Rebels gave it one final gasp and scored at the end of the third quarter but still trailed 35-28.
The final 12 minutes were dominated by the Black Cats.  Hunter Hawkins hauled in a 31-yard TD pass to start the quarter.  Mojo rambled 55 yards to paydirt on the next drive.  Steen picked up his second rushing touchdown of the night from six yards out to extend the lead to 49-28 midway into the fourth.  Aaron Vasquez put the icing on the cake, scoring on an 8-yarder as time expired for the 55-28 victory.

Kade Davis led all rushers with 150 yards, followed by Robinson with 114 and Steen with 107.  Robinson also had the one catch for 71 yards, while Hunter Hawkins hauled in two passes for 36 yards.  Steen also set a new school single-season quarterback rushing record.  After starting the 2016 season 4-0, the Panthers finish with a 6-4 record for the year.
